ALL ABOARD FOR A ONE DAY TRIP IN MEXICO
by Eric Sanders

It seems Incredible, but in one day one can travel to faraway Puerto Penasco and back - much of the distance by train.

This can be done next month. PSRMA will run a rail car excursion train Saturday, November 9, from Mexicali across the Colorado delta country and the Sonora Desert to the isolated Gulf of California fishing village of Puerto Penasco, and return, a round trip totaling 300 miles. Also available for those interested will be a bus connection between the San Diego area and Mexicali, a round trip of about 210 miles.

Patrons will have two hours in Puerto "to do the town." The seaport village is out on a point at the end of the Puerto Penasco spur. There are shops to visit and waterfront activities to view. Don't expect to find well stocked curio shops however.

Train will leave Mexicali at 10 a.m. and return about 6 p.m. Bus will leave San Diego or La Mesa about 6:30 a.m., return sometime after 11 p.m. You may drive if you wish. Park your car at the station. The train will consist of two, or three sets of two-unit British built rail cars powered with Rolls-Royce engines.

Train fares are: adults $10 and children ages 5-11, $6.50. Bus fares are $7 for adults and $6 for children 5-11. A small discount is allowed on member and one guest train fares. There is no discount on bus fares.

Beverages and sandwiches will be available in the buffet of each car set. Better bring a lunch, however.

Tourist permits are required. Smallpox vaccinations are recommended. Do come along and join the fun. Six hours of fun and enjoyable scenery.
